What's an usurper?

a usurper is basically a mod who doesn't have a set posting time; in Ye Olden Days, there was a mod assigned to every hour, and usurpers would fill in if the mod mysteriously disappeared or if there was a Hole in Time (they were also called Emergency Stunt Mods or Highly Irregulars)

then it became a usurpation free-for-all and now (thanks to ingreatwaters and lolmac) we use anchor posts which have assigned mods and the rest of the hours are usurped by whoever wants to do the post. So basically, if you just wanna do a mod post or seven at random, you should be a usurper mod! There's even a prize for the Champion Usurper (the prize is the title of Champion Usurper)

General rules for usurping can be found here, and the gentles' agreement for anchor posts is to allow 10 minutes from the top of the hour for the mod to post before usurping, but honestly just throw a post down and see what happens. Just let us know if you're interested so we can give you posting access! :D

Is there anything I should know about formatting the posts, apart from putting the round+hour in the title and the round + "usurpation" in the tags?

nope, that's it that's the format! anything else is completely up to you. you can rant about your experience that hour, you can ask writing questions, you can tell a story, you can simply check in to see how everyone's doing-- what you do in a post is up to you, but ideally it should encourage Rushers to comment. As for tags, the only required one is the round, and usurpation is a useful one, but feel free to use any of the other tags at your discretion. If you want to look through them and see how they're usually used you can, but we just kinda throw them on sometimes, and if you think up a new tag that would really improve the whole experience, just stick it on (I could absolutely infodump on typical tag usage here because I'm a huge nerd about this kinda thing but I'll spare you because scaring off new mods is generally frowned upon lol)

It's okay, I enjoy tags. :D Infodumping on tag usage won't scare me off. I'll probably take it easy with the optional tags at first, but I'm curious! :)
