We're short on mods this round, especially in the first half of the 'Rush. If you think you'd be up to doing two shifts, I would be very happy; but please only do it if you actually want to.
I see Beth hasn't managed to get back to you, so - hi! Yup, you joining in would be completely awesome and definitely fine. :D Also, greetings! *hands you a glowstick* ^_^
(Welcome! I'm not a mod. Well, I'm a stunt mod. And the comm's fairy godparent, of sorts. It's complicated. XD We have long-standing in-jokes and alien fish, but we're really a super-friendly bunch. I'll hope to see you here on the weekend!)
Whoops -- I was prepping the schedule, and realized I hadn't replied to your question!
It's absolutely fine and lovely for you to join in -- it's wide open! No signups or anything. During the round itself (which will begin at midnight GMT), whenever you're online and writing, or thinking about writing, or procrastinating and trying to start writing, drop in on the fic_rush_48 comm and comment on the most recent hourly post. You can mention what you're working on, or report what you accomplished in the previous hour, or ask for support, or say encouraging things to others. In general, the more support you offer, the more enthusiastic people tend to be in return.
There tend to be a lot of silly jokes and running gags, and we often get really punchy and cracky after a while, especially late at night or towards the end. (You'll see references to penguins, ninjas, glowsticks, alien fish, etc.)
At the end of the round, a wrap-up post will go up on this comm, and you can report on what you accomplished during the weekend. And then we go do it all over again next month!
And yes, this is a great comm -- we've been going since 2009, although I didn't get involved until Round 5, early in 2010. I took over the comm starting with Round 10, and I'm really delighted that we're still here and going strong!
