Time to figure out when the next round will be:[Poll #1808046][Poll #1808047][Poll #1808048]Please remember to leave a comment and let me know if you have the full commenting features available.
As far as I can tell as long as the page isn't a 'custom comment page' the comment boxes haven't been updated or changed in anyway. Whether it will be is another thing.
Though I would prefer lj, I have a DW but I don't use it therefore I'm not all that familiar with it.
I have a subject line and all that good stuff - but LJ's new owner has said that's a temporary situation. "For now, you can switch back to the old style from the beta. In the future, you won't be able to." (http://factionary.livejournal.com/2116.html) (Translated from Russian by one factionary, a native Russian-speaker.)
So I voted for "DW but LJ is okay", although what I meant was "I don't care as long as we have proper comment pages but we need to be thinking about the future". Which... you've staked out our spot on Dwth, so yeah, I'm good with whatever the comm does, as long as I can still find it. ;-)
***********************
Other thing: I didn't pick a date because I feel weird picking three out of four, but my preference is for "anything but the first weekend listed". I'm starting school on the 9th and I need to spend the weekend getting things in order. o_O
Picking three out of four weekends really is fine; no worries there.
Given LJ's uneven track record for changes, I'm not going to fret right now about what they may or may not decide to screw up in the future, or what timeline they might or might not have. At present, we aren't 'switching back' at all; we're in a layout that never changed in the first place.
Which is an ambiguous subject line at best. But it does look like it. That is to say, it would appear that I have full commenting features available.
I am really fairly uninterested in making a DW account in addition to all the other accounts I have on the internet, but I'd do it for Fic!Rush if it became necessary.
I just made a post on DW solely for the purpose of people here practicing with OpenID. See my comment below for more info and the link. Feel free to come over and play!
(I started typing 'all is well' in the subject line and got this header, so I thought that was more fun. ;-D)
Yes, if the layout was one of those unaffected, then for the moment, we should all be fine. Unless, I suppose someone affected is viewing everything in style mine.
Let's see what happens, maybe? Last time LJ were this faily and provoked such an outcry they claimed they weren't changing the problem, and then they did anyway. Now it's past the Christmas hols, fingers crossed. I have nothing against DW, and I do have an account over there, so I'd still be able to take part (I could never work out Open ID, at least not before I lost the will to live/comment) but I just prefer LJ for the moment for various reasons, and I like to be in one place rather than two as far as possible.
If LJ do anything even more spectacularly stupid though, that may be forced to change, although I would be very sad.
I've only ticked the last two weekends but technically I can do the weekend of the 14th and 1th, I will just be knitting like a fiend that weekend.
I don't know if the comm layout is working because I had to override everything and view in style mine because it's the only way I can guarantee that I can comment. Three browsers later and I still can't comment on the default pages. fdgfdgfdgfdgfdgdfgfg Why yes I am still a little pisssed off. Suffice it to say, it works for me for the moment so either or is fine with me (though I am beginning to prefer DW).
At some point, if you have the energy, can you check and see if you still have commenting features when you aren't in Style Mine? If you don't have the energy, I completely sympathise and understand.
I got so damned burned out over the whole thing that I went offline completely for two days.
I've got no real preference about posting here or on dreamwidth. I've got accounts on both, and have posted/run comms on both so I feel pretty comfortable about doing my hosting duties either way.
The good news is that LJ seems swamped by the angry reception to their update. The bad news is that they heavily hinted that the layouts that haven't been affected so far WILL be affected in the future. Hopefully, #1 will negate #2.
I dunno, I don't mind DW as such, but I guess I'd rather not migrate but as a last resort.
As for the weekends... I didn't vote for the 14th cos I'm 100% unavailable until some undisclosed point in the evening, so I won't be able to do at least the first half of my shift. I am however available on Sunday evening on that weekend. The same for the 8th.
I ticked off all the dates as I am free, I'm just not sure if I'll have internet access... or a computer... or something unexpected comes up or... lol I'll be there if I can!
As for comments, the page works for me!
As for DW, I have one as a backup, but rarely use it for reading. I'm sure I could check more often on the Rush weekends if need be, but hopefully won't have to. :)
I got drop down menus and preview buttons, the lot.
I'm less and less on LJ and more and more on DW so obviously I'd be delighted if we did move, but I love the comm (and modding when real life isn't eating me OMG) so I'll continue to take part even if we stay here.
Yes, I have the full commenting features both here and at fic_rush_48
I am fine with fic_rush moving to DW, and I am also fine with it staying on LJ.
If there are people who are concerned about participating on DW with their LJ accounts, I can help with an OpenID tutorial. It's not hard at all. In fact, try it out right now (http://dbskyler.dreamwidth.org/85444.html).
The only thing that's a bit of a pain is that the first time you sign in with OpenID, you have to verify that you are in fact the owner of the LJ account you are using. But once you're signed in, you're good to go until you log out. For fic_rush, I'd recommend signing in once, and then not logging out until the end of the round.
p.s. -- if you're wondering what your OpenID account would be from LiveJournal, it's your LJ user name followed by .livejournal.com. My OpenID from LiveJournal is dbskyler.livejournal.com.
(Added because DW asks you to put in your OpenID account when you sign in, and it's a little confusing if it's your first time and you don't know what they're talking about.)
I'd personally prefer DWth, as it hasn't had the stupidity tsunamis that LJ seems determined to veer through, especially now that comms can be imported over there, but I can come to LJ if that's where the party is.
I do wonder, seeing how the winds seem to be blowing with LJ, if it might make more sense to go ahead and get the comm migration to DWth done while everything is still working and can be gone back and forth to - instead of waiting for the next wave of LJ-ness when DWth may be swamped in panicked people who procrastinated and preferred the comfy denial about LJs apparent hostility to its own customers. Just a thought.
I will eventually migrate the comms over there, if only as a backup; but they've only just enabled comm importing. I'd rather wait at least a month or two, so that the first tsunami of stampeding comm imports has had time to die down. (How's that for a mixed metaphor?)
Yes I has Subject Line
As for the DW/LJ question: I'm impartial. I'm equally comfortable on both journals, so it doesn't bother me either way.

completely understanding the pissed-off aspect

I was completely the same.
subject to sudden bouts of cursing
If I had the energy, I'd start a therapy comm on DW for traumatised survivors of LJ.

Check, check, check.
As far as I can tell I still have subject lines.
