Round 84 has ended!!
Sun, Mar. 18th, 2018 08:00 pmRound 84, affectionately known as Fred (but never as Freddy), is over!
Tell us what wonderful things you accomplished this weekend! I saw a lot of lovely new members and lovely, well, not necessarily old, let's say veteran members, and much much wordage and other accomplishments! Now's your chance to boast of your prowess.
Please also take a chance to thank our lovely and tireless Mod Squad, who kept the hourly posts going. We did not drop ONE SINGLE HOUR in this round! (Some of them wobbled a bit, but hey, nothing cracked.)
Your mods were:
juliet316, the Pinstriped Fish Defender, who won this month's crown as Champion Usurper with TWELVE posts
dbskyler, the Slayer of Alien Fish
justice_turtle, the Ninja Pirate Prince/ss
thisbluespirit, the Bringer of Penguins
glinda, the Supreme Tea Temptress
idlewild, the Grand Vizier of Coffee
agirlnamedtruth, the Supreme Temporal Wrangler
lullabymoon, known as Dances-With-Nemeses*
and myself,
lolmac (Beth), known as Queen Mod.
Please give a very special an fervent shout-out to
justice_turtle, whose tireless enthusiasm coaxed the 'Rush back into life again. TURTLE ROCKS!!
Many happy thanks to everyone who participated. Please keep an eye on this comm and watch for a new poll to choose a weekend for an April round. I think it's clear that the Rush is back with a mighty roar, and we have plenty more good rounds ahead!
*(even if the Nemesis is no longer there in the house, you can still dance, right?)

Date: 2018-03-19 12:10 am (UTC)Tempting as it is to just drop that gif and run, I will stay long enough to thank the mods, you guys did an amazing job, WE HAD A POST FOR EVERY HOUR GUYS! That never happened on the rounds with schedules, let alone free-range fic rush. I personally am loving the new usurption based format and hope it stays. Less pressure to remember what you're doing (a problem I seemed to have more than most, oops) and more chance to go with the flow and have some fun seeing who was going to post next.
Personally, I got 1566 words down. No lemons as such (I'm trying to bring that term back) but it is build up to lemony-lemoness. I got involved in two fandom things, I signed up for a prompt table and I submitted some noms for an exchange, which probably means I'll sign up for that too. I had some really good, distracting food. I had a blast with you guys!
I give Fred five stars, would rush again <3

Date: 2018-03-19 12:15 am (UTC)I signed up for a ficathon, got 2,104 words done for the WIP over the course of the weekend, and read a lot of very amusing comments. So, good, then. Kudos to the mods (and usurpers) for filling all of the hours.

Date: 2018-03-19 12:17 am (UTC)I also got a lot of my WIPs sorted into "I can finish these easily", "These have a long way to go but have a lot of potential" and "What the heck was I on (but I'll still keep them for later)", so I actually have a siege plan, which might help.
Or I might get distracted by scientific articles on lobsters. Either or. xD

Date: 2018-03-19 10:29 am (UTC)Lobsters! They’re sea bugs! xD Actually, they’re arthropods, which makes them a cousin of insects rather than actual insects (though informally, bug is used for pretty much all invertebrates). They’re relevant to my interests because they’re sort of immortal, giving an actual scientific base to a lot of Wraith traits that canon sort of handwaved. See, there’s this thing called telomeres, which is a strand of DNA on the end of our chromosomes. In most vertebrates, these shorten over time because we lack the ability of fully replicate DNA strands. Lobsters, however, have an enzyme called telomerase which helps them elongate their DNA strands over time, keeping them from actually aging the way we do.
And if that can exist in real life, it can certainly exist in a species as biologically implausible as the Wraith. xD
(It also explains how the rapid aging happens when they feed; something in the enzyme they release during feeding has the opposite effect and break down the telomeres, causing rapid aging.)
Science is fun! xD And also, lobsters don’t age, they merely grow. Which sounds ominous, but thankfully they can’t grow over a certain size because their system can only sustain so much.
(Sorry for the science ramble. I get enthusiastic when I can base head canon in science. xD)
