Round 10 is Over!!!

Wow, what an amazing round!  I lost count of how many people we had and just how much everyone did -- not only writing, but editing, posting, and especially tackling those lurking unfinished fic projects that tend to bulk up and get scary when left in the corners.

So remind us.  This is your chance to brag!  What did you accomplish?  Remember, high word count isn't the only joy -- any and all progress is cause for celebration.

This is also your chance to give feedback, and my chance to shower thanks on dbskyler, glinda_penguin, and lullabymoon, who traded off modding with me, and without whom I could not have done this.  And a salute to studyofrunning, the founder of fic_rush .

I'll post a poll to choose dates for Round 11 within the next few days.

I may need to redo the fic gallery, since it's a post under studyofrunning's user ID, and I don't have editing access to the post.  Accordingly, please send me a PM with the following information on fics to add to the gallery, or any changes to make to fic entries already listed there:

-fic title
-link to the fic
-the name or username to credit the fic to, if it's not the one you're posting with
-fandom(s)
-main characters/pairings
-rating/warnings
-spoiler warnings, if applicable
-what round of fic_rush you wrote it for
-word count (if it's a WIP, please give current and expected final word count, if you can)

There's no limit on how many fics you can have listed, nor how long after a round you can have a fic from it listed.  Any fic in any fandom qualifies, as long as you worked on it during a round of fic_rush .

By my rough count, we had 15 participants -- possibly more -- at least three new people, and several new fandoms!

I actually totalled about 950 words, which isn't a high count; but it's very, very good for me. I usually only manage about 250 words of progress a day anyway, and this particular chunk of wordage means much more than its simple length.

I have finished my epilogue, and once past the final review and beta, I'm going to be able to call the novel DONE!

Everybody was amazing, I had a lot of fun this weekend, if I am down one blown up chair.

I had a lot of ideas (including a Crystal Doctor over an alien waterfall), just didn't get a whole lot of writing done. Oh well, maybe next time.

Bright side, I got the results back on my stargate_las fic and will post that on my journal and AO3 soon.

That was an excellent round, good fun and good company - plus I finally got rolling again in a story that had puttered to a nearly complete stop, which was a fine thing. And hatched a plot bunny. And now have strange ideas for cracky fics involving donkeys, alien fish, sheep, monkeys, teapots and such. Thank you!

I think I got about 4000 words in total though that's not what I'm happy about. I planned 9 chapters to a WIP I'm writing at the moment and now I know exactly when it's going to finish. A very productive weekend : )

This was so much fun and so productive for me! Great to have company in trying to stay focused and on task. Thank you lolmac, and all the other kindly mods who kept things going! I had a great time chattering with everyone and hearing what people were working on. Can't wait to read some of the fics.

It's really lovely to set aside time to just focus on writing when frankly everything is busybusybusy all the time. That was the greatest accomplishment of the weekend for me.

Also I learned that writers google the strangest stuff.

That was one of the most fun fic_rushes I've been at -- what an amazing group we had! There was a ton of writing and two tons of camaraderie and fun. Congratulations to us all!

I want to add that we need a huge round of applause to lolmac for stepping in to keep this comm going and doing all the necessary behind-the-scenes organizing and scheduling.

I won't give a word count, but I did manage to add actual words to my WIP, so this was definitely a successful round for me.

This was my first Fic_Rush, and I only wish I could have spent more time writing! It was a lot of fun feeling I wasn't "going it alone" this weekend.

And I got a significant breakthrough in the story I was writing, so much so that the part I was working on is now too long to post to my journal, so I'm going to have to look over the structure and find a couple of good places for chapter breaks! I hope the momentum continues with this one, it's so nice not to have it stalled as it had been.

Good job on getting unstuck. It does feel really nice to unstall. That's not even a word but I'm using it anyway.

I definitely enjoyed all the company. It made the whole lonely tortuous writing process moderately less lonely and tortuous!

I just read through ALL the rounds I've participated in, making a list of the fics/stuff I've worked on. Turns out "Fine Print, The Connections Remix" (already in the fic gallery) is my only finished piece from any 'rush.

But! I think I also figured out why I was so blocked this time: almost all my WIPs are several months old, and my brain did a major attitude shift when I started college, so the tone of the older stuff just doesn't fit anything I can (or want to) write anymore. Which may very well be a good thing.

Solution: I plan to rewrite the old pieces by hand, looking at the originals as little as possible, in hopes that the good parts will survive and the other bits will be improved. I think I need a fic notebook. :-)

Ooh. Now that sounds ambitious but smart. A good way to bust through some WIPs and hopefully keep the good parts.

I always have my big, colourful tokidoki notebook and a pen in my handbag. It has notes, actual writing, doodles, and schematics and math for things I will probably never knit but want to think about in boring meetings. I don't make a rule of handwriting and transcribing, but I do think it can be a really useful approach. Plus you get to shop for a cool notebook.

I washed up my dinner things, had a shower, and went to bed - and then wrote another 400 words last night! o_O

So my weekend total was over 7100 words - which I'm satisfied with - even if neither fic was the one I wanted to be writing, it was good to be writing again. Work's so exhausting I'd been struggling to get anything done.

Well, I still can't believe I managed to get through 10,000+ words of my original fantasy story in the course of the 48 hours. I can only put that down to all the encouragement and morale-boosting and camaraderie provided by the mods and everybody else on the comm. So thanks to all of the people doing the hourly posts and to everybody else in general - it was a lot of fun and I may well be back for future rounds! :)
