Master Modding Questions: Annual Update
The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of modding schedules. Specifically, it's time for me to update the Master Modding Schedule and ask you talk of many things involving time zones and availability.
If you are a mod, or have modded, or would like to mod, or just want to be well-modulated, please comment on this post and answer the following questions. Please give answers in your own time zone, or in GMT -- and tell me which you're using. Please ignore everyone else's schedule at this time: this is all about YOU. Because we're all special snowflakes. Except for Fred, who is a special hailstone.
Please reply even if you've told me this information before and nothing has changed. If I don't hear from you at all, I will take that to mean that you are no longer interested in modding and I'll cry. If you can't commit to a regular mod shift, but are interested in/willing to do occasional Stunt Mod shifts, please say so, but also answer the questions.
If you have never modded at all, or you've been an Emergency Stunt Mod, or a member of the Fic Rush Highly Irregulars, or a Master Usurper, or you modded in the past and took a break and would like to mod again, this is your chance! Crack a glowstick! Set off fireworks!
1. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are you NOT EVER available to mod? (Due to sleeping, regular commitments, etc.)
2. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod?
3. There is no number 3.
4. If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess?
5. Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or would you prefer a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergencyusurpation coverage?
6. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding?
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or onlywhen suitably bribed in emergencies?
8. Is there anything else I should know about your life that has bearing on this? (for example: you're a student and your schedule goes through periodic reshuffling; you work on alternate weekends; you're moving to Antarctica and starting a new job on the night shift; you're getting married/having a baby/finding a cure for cancer/marrying a Cancer; you're a clone and can mod twice at the same time, unless you get into a fight with yourself)
9. VERY IMPORTANT: What time zone are you in?
- For extra credit, use 'walrus' in a sentence. Creativity counts.

9) Central Standard/Daylight Time
1) I sleep from midnight to 9am CST both Fri/Sat and Sat/Sun.
8) I'm in grad school, so my schedule could potentially become a sitcom, but I don't really do anything on weekends, so it shouldn't become too much of a problem.
2) Saturday during the day/evening (like noon-4) is prime modding time, but actually mornings have been working quite nicely for my productivity...
4) when in doubt, 42
7) I feel like I've been doing two shifts recently? It seems to be working for me, so if you need me to do multiple, I'm down.
5) Regular time, please :)
6) I mean, clearly I have no qualms modding forever, but I'd like to at least try to keep it under 12, including usurpations?
I don't actually intend on galactic domination I just never leave my computer :Pno subject
2: ditto
3: Number Six is a free walrus.
4: I know nossink.
5: Stunt modding only.
6: After 2-3 hours in a row I tend to burn out.
7: My brain is confused; let's say "not applicable". I'm willing to stunt multiple hours in a weekend if occasion occurs, yeah.
8: The TV that the ladies in this overflow dorm use as a white-noise generator to cover the multitudinous snoring is currently showing a '70s Z-movie about some weird cross between men's roller derby, motor-scooter racing, and shot-put. *koff* In short, asyouknowBeth, I'm in a homeless shelter with sporadic internet access and know zip about my future, except that I hope to get into college for fall. Also, I am always in a fight with myself, or rather with my programming. ;-)
9: US Eastern time, Standard or Daylight as applicable. (I have no idea when it changes anymore...)

2. With work taken into account, 7am GMT to 10am GMT I should *always* be able to do, no matter what end of the day it is for me - I'll either be getting up or pottering about before bed.
3. Number 3 is a lie?
4. Always good for 7am-10am GMT, if I'm not at work then in theory I can do all night 7pm to 7am and if I really am in a mad flux, I might be able to do daylight hours.
5. I'm easy, it's really up to you and if you can handle the stress of my insane scheduling issues with work. A fixed 7am-10am slot would be cool but that's the only time I could do fixed. Variable is also cool as long as it can be in my usual will she/won't she fashion. And if you have enough people to cover and don't want to worry about where to stick me, I'm cool with taking on the honour of being a
Odobenus RosmarusUsurper or an Emergency StuntWalrusMod.6. If it's 7am-10am, three hours in a row max. though I could do 3 hours on one day and three on the other. If I'm not working, I can run for as many hours needed (let's cap it at 12 so you all don't stick me with the whole round and emigrate to Tahiti).
7. See previous answer because apparently I'm psychic. Also, if you were to pay me £9.03 an hour, I could be bribed into calling in to work claiming I'd contracted Fic Rush.
8. I work nights, 3 nights a week on a "flexible" basis. Sadly that doesn't make me a gymnast, it means that I don't know my days until they put up the schedule. Which annoyingly they tend to leave it until the last minute before putting up 3 weeks at once. And on top of that, my sleeping pattern gets way messed up when I have to do things like food shopping during the day (but that I can plan around fic rush) - so basically, I might be a while in knowing if I'm working or not but if I'm not working, I'm pretty easy and once I can commit to those hours, I can do them - I just might be a little bleary eyed or have to set an alarm or something.
9. GMT, which being a walrus stands for "Got Mighty Tusks" not Greenwich Mean Time. I know that's really confusing and we've had meetings about it but changing it got a vote of no flippers and so it is what it is. Luckily though, it's exactly the same as Greenwich Mean Time, if that helps at all...

2. Saturday 8pm EST to Sunday 1am EST
3. There is no answer to question 3
4. Only applies to walruses
5. I prefer a set schedule
6. A four or five hour shift is really the most I can do
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or only when suitably bribed in emergencies?
8. Walruses ate my typewriter.
9. US Eastern Standard Time
no subject
2. Anytime between 11am and 8pm my time
3. Yes there is. I can see it. However there is no question to answer here :D
4. This doesn't apply to me unless the Doctor decides to drop by some time and take me on whirlwind adventures
5. I'm happy with a set shift
6. I would like to drop back to one shift a round please. Doing two has become too much at this point in time and I'd prefer it to be on the Sunday if possible
7. I'd be willing to do it in emergencies but after so much time doing 2 shifts I feel I really need to stop. There's just too much happening in my RL at the moment, I can't be worried about this, I'm at my worry limit. I need you to understand, please Beth.
8. Lots of sick relatives who we visit when or if we can/they need us too, even if it means letting go of any other responsibility.
9. Australia EDT Sydney time

walrusbrain is completely incapable of answering these questions at this time. I'm in the Central time zone, and I sleep. Basically, if you assign it, I'll show up, and more than one shift should be fine.no subject

1. 10pm-6am GMT (I sleep.) Also 3pm is bad.
2. (I'm not good at too many consecutive hours but) 8am-10am, 12pm-2pm, 5pm-9pm
5. Still doing stunt modding for now. (I can still have v bad days sometimes, so... :-/)
6. max 2 hours (3 is okay, but 2 is better.)
7. Yes.
8. Well, I think you know already that I have a chronic illness, so on bonus it means I'm almost always around, on the down side I may have a very bad day. (These days it would have to be very bad though not manage an hour or two posting on fic_rush!)
9. GMT (BST by the end of this month, which is... GMT+1, isn't it?? I think.)
no subject
I supposed between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. PST. I'm, er, a late sleeper. Also, lazy.
2. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod?
I'm good with the hours I have ie 10-1 PST, but TBH... the perfectest time would be later. After 3 pm for sure, or even evening/night time PST, like, starting at 8 pm, that's actually the time I'm very likely to be around. Morning I sometimes have things, as you've noticed. Unless you're a walrus, in which case I assume you wouldn't. Cos they tend not to.
3. There is no number 3.
You bet there is!
4. If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess?
Number 3? My best bet is after 8 pm, like I very eloquently said above.
5. Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or would you prefer a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergency usurpation coverage?
See, it's getting kinda hard to answer these questions. I'm going to assume you're not a walrus after all so you've noticed how many shifts I've missed/ had to bail out at the last minute/ just disappeared lately. I'd like to say I'm still as reliable as ever, but then I'd have to assume you are a walrus. Are you?
6. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding?
Nah, as long as I'm around I'm good.
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or only when suitably bribed in emergencies?
Yup. And assuming I'm here I don;t mind it regularly.
I am a student and my schedule is going through periodic reshuffling plus research trips plus horrific deadlines deadlinining, er, looming ahead. I'm also likely to disappear if I need to hide from lurking giraffes.
9. VERY IMPORTANT: What time zone are you in?
Pacific Standard Time! Also known as 'waaaay behind the rest of the world that's on a decent time, ie on the plus side of GMT'.
- For extra credit, use 'walrus' in a sentence. Creativity counts.
Do I get extra extra credit cos I managed to turn it into a repeated gag?

ETA: would evening work if it were Friday evening -- say, from 8 pm Friday to 10 or 11 pm? Or is it only feasible on Saturday evening?

*hugs bukkit*
WALRUSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't mod between 10pm and 9am due to that thing I need called sleep. Saturday from about 7pm onwards is usually no good either due to family.
2. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod?
Sunday 10am to 1pm. Same on Saturday if I'm not working.
3. There is no number 3.
Shock horror! :O
4. If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess?
5. Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or would you prefer a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergency usurpation coverage?
I like having my regular sunday morning shift :)
6. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding?
3 hours seems to be the perfect length for me. I can do 4 hours though.
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or only when suitably bribed in emergencies?
If I'm not working then I'm happy to take a shift both days.
8. Is there anything else I should know about your life that has bearing on this?
I work on alternative saturdays. The weekends I work I tend to be rather quiet on the sunday as well, but I still enjoy modding.
9. VERY IMPORTANT: What time zone are you in?
I'm in GMT, and GMT+1 in the summer
no subject
2. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod? likely early to late evening (anywhere from 7pm ET to 11Pm ET), but like I said, if needed, I can probably find a way to make it work.
3. *Insert alien pinstriped fish and Imperial dolphins here*
4. If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess? No mad flux at the moment.
5. Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or would you prefer a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergency usurpation coverage? All three?
6. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding? No minimums or maximums needed I'm available when and where you need me.
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or only when suitably bribed in emergencies? Yes, I could swing multiple shifts regularly, but bribes certainly can be a great inducement. ;-)
8. Is there anything else I should know about your life that has bearing on this? (for example: you're a student and your schedule goes through periodic reshuffling; you work on alternate weekends; you're moving to Antarctica and starting a new job on the night shift; you're getting married/having a baby/finding a cure for cancer/marrying a Cancer; you're a clone and can mod twice at the same time, unless you get into a fight with yourself) Not at present. Will check back with you if that changes.
9. VERY IMPORTANT: What time zone are you in? Eastern Standard/Daylight time (remember kids, for those who fall under Daylight Savings time this weekend, that means we lose an hour)
no subject
2. Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod? I like my 8 AM - 12 PM slot on Sunday that I've been doing. But, basically, any hours on Saturday or Sunday other than the ones above are fair game for me.
3. There is no number 3.
4. If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess? I have a pretty set schedule right now. My life is very boring.
5. Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or would you prefer a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergency usurpation coverage? I prefer having a set shift so I don't forget when I'm supposed to be here, but I can also help provide additional coverage when it's needed.
6. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding? I normally can't do more than 4 hours at a time.
7. Are you willing to mod for more than one shift in a 'Rush weekend? If so, can you do it regularly, occasionally, or only when suitably bribed in emergencies? I can mod for more than one shift occasionally.
8. Is there anything else I should know about your life that has bearing on this? (for example: you're a student and your schedule goes through periodic reshuffling; you work on alternate weekends; you're moving to Antarctica and starting a new job on the night shift; you're getting married/having a baby/finding a cure for cancer/marrying a Cancer; you're a clone and can mod twice at the same time, unless you get into a fight with yourself) My life at the moment is very much the same every single week, and even when I do go back to school, unless I suddenly have classes on the weekends, it'll be the same anyway.
9. VERY IMPORTANT: What time zone are you in? Central
no subject
2. Saturday afternoon and early evening have been my usual shifts (central time zone). I like them, even if I seem to frequently forget about them... *shame*
3. *blinks*
4. Peanut butter is the answer.
5. I like regular shifts. Helps me to remember them... when I remember them.
6. 4 hours is my usual, and it seems easy. I could probably swing a longer shift, if I didn't bore the fic-rushers to death.
7. Put me down for 'occasionally', and keep in mind I could probably do an emergency, in a pinch.
8. My life is an open book. With a cat sitting on it. Shredding the bookmark.
9. Central Walrus Zone (daylight savings time)
no subject
2) 6 or 7 a.m to 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
3) Bummer. Walrus!
4) No fluctuations, weekends are steady as a rock.
5) Whatever suits the schedule, I'm not fussy
6) I haven't modded, but I think after 5-6 hours in a row I would be booed out of the stage :D
7) I can, if needed.
8) Aahh...No. Other than if I'm mostly modding myself, I'll wear fake mustache so there won't be any clone fights! Brilliant.
9) Finland - in the World Clock, that's Helsinki, and in the Time Zone Map that's UTC +3. And 26.10. we move the clocks back to the winter time (Daylight Savings Time ends)

1. usually between the hours of 3am-10am my time. But for the time being I'm flexible.
2. daily 11am-3pm are pretty great, and then 9pm-3am works
3. .... i feel cheated by no 3 lol
4. my best guess at what?
5. Both are appealing. I can also pretty much assure that I'll be around saturdays 3-7 pm (cause that's my ao3 meeting time!) so that would work for me haha.
6. probably 3-4 hours at a time. just y'know, so I get up from my chair :P
7. sure thing. As long as it's planned a few days in advance
8. I'm currently a novelist, which means my time is rather my own. But I am looking for work that y'know, pays
yay two degrees that mean nothing. I haven't wasted my life at all!, so if/when that happens my schedule might change. I also do a lot of theatre, so some weekends every few months won't work.9. EST - Toronto

Thanks for the quick reply here! You'll have modding privileges for the coming round and can usurp at need, and I'll be delighted to slot you in next round. Thank you again for stepping up!
Also, if you haven't yet come up with a Pretentious Title, it's never too early to start. *g*
