When the round starts,there will be a post here saying "The Round is starting!" But it won't allow you to comment here. Instead, it will point you at the sister comm, fic_rush_48. (You'll probably want to join or at least watch that comm for the duration.)

Starting with Hour 1, every hour more or less on the hour, allowing for distractions and timey-wimeyness, there will be a new hourly post at fic_rush_48. The mod will invite anyone and everyone to post updates -- are they writing, how much did they accomplish in the previous hour, are they baking cookies, what kind, are they falling asleep all over their keyboards, did their annoying family members or pets interrupt them. Often, the mod will crack terrible jokes or engage in bizarre behaviour, offering glowsticks, rousting out the ninja penguins, etc.

People are encouraged to respond, and (when they can, and have the energy), to reply to each other. Mostly, we cheer each other on. Sometimes we'll get someone who's got a question, or is stuck, or is trying to figure out what kind of drink an AU version of Magneto will buy an AU version of Charles Xavier when they meet in a 1930s New York speakeasy, which is hard to figure out if you're a teetotaller living in Spain. Yes, it happened.

The mods go in shifts: we usually change over after 3 or 4 hours, which allows us to go for the entire 48 hours with a check-in opportunity every hour, plus a round-up at the end.

Pretty much every round has members who are having trouble getting started, or getting unstuck. There's a lot of encouragement and commiseration. People wake up, check the comm, write as much as they can, check in, check out. It gets quiet for a few hours out of every night, but it's never silent; we have regulars on 3 continents, plus night-owls and insomniacs.

As for the porn, no fear. I think the gen writers are usually outnumbered. We don't post excerpts or links, but when something gets finished and posted, comm members will often follow the writer who announced the posting back to her (or his) LJ in search of the new smut fic. *g*

Also: for pimpage purposes, you might want to repost the content of my reply to your comment here, rather than the modding schedule. I'm not sure the schedule will make much sense to anyone else, although the silly pretentious titles might at least provide amusement. (All 'Rush mods must have a pretentious title. It's a rule.)

ETA: And I managed to title it wrong the first time around. It's going to be Round 51. D'oh! We'll undoubtedly have wandering aliens.

Well.... I was hoping to do some writing if I can manage it. I don't know, maybe I'll see how I'm feeling Sunday morning before committing, these days I'm all over the place with my grief.
