We're Looking for a Few Good Mods

Actually, we already have a lot of good mods, but we're greedy.  We want more!!

Interested in modding?  Possibly interested?  Vaguely tempted?  Open to bribery?  We offer pretentious titles, virtual cookies, and a monthly shot at galactic domination.

Several of our regular mods now have other things happening in RL -- school, job changes, outside commitments, expanding social lives, possibly (for all we know) even Secret Missions full of Derring-Do (or Derring-Don't).  The more people we have available to mod, the better it is for all of us -- the last thing we want to see is someone burning out on a fun activity because they feel obligated to it.

So, if you've never modded but would like to try, or if you've never thought of modding but are susceptible to flattery, cajolement, and bribes, or are unsure about it but sufficiently intrigued to speak up, now is the time!

Things You Will Be Required To Do:

- Confirm your availability, when asked, for a given round.
- Show up when scheduled and make an hourly post, preferably within ten minutes of the beginning of the hour.
- Be generally supportive of others in the comm.

Things You Will Be Encouraged To Do:

- Respond supportively to people who comment in your hour.  This is not required, but it's a nice way of making the comm the special place it is.
- Respond supportively, when time and energy allows, to people who comment in other hours.  Ditto.
- Participate and enjoy, and benefit from the comm.
- Be proactive and communicative about your capacity to sustain modding activity.  In other words, when you're tired or busy or overwhelmed, speak up rather than toughing it out!  Mutual support includes supporting the mods.
- Usurp any damned time it's needed and you want to.
- Pimp the comm when you can, if you can.
- Assume a Pretentious Title.
- Eat and sleep during rounds.

Things You Will Not Be Required To Do:

- Be scintillating and witty, or cracky and clever, or anything of the sort.  That's optional.  If you've been telling yourself "Oh, the mods are always writing this crazy/funny/weird stuff, I'm not sure I can do that", please stop worrying about it. The only requirement is to post somewhere in the vague vicinity of the hour for which you've accepted the responsibility.
- Take on modding responsibilities when you're not up to it.

Things You Are Allowed To Do:
- Take time off when you need to.
- Use the Pre-Scheduled Post feature in LJ to get posts up, as long as you're careful with it (since it's not always reliable).
- Make awful puns and weird cracky jokes, revisit running gags, and generally wallow in absurdity.
- Launch your own running gag and see if it becomes comm canon.
- Use your Pretentious Title.
- Feel smug and pleased with yourself for your contribution.  :)

Now is the chance!  This week, if you volunteeer, you'll get twice the salary of the Head Mod and first pick of the penguins!

Perks! You're offering perks to other mods? I thought I was the only one with access to the diamond-studded foot bath and the time machine.

Actually, you've been time-sharing the time machine all along. You just didn't notice.

Well, you don't have to "always" -- you can have a go as an Irregular, and pinch-hit or usurp when your availability coincides with need. The Fic Rush Irregulars are a fine batch of sneaky usurping scoundrels Fine and Upstanding Folks.

I'd love to! I have a pretty flexible schedule and I've enjoyed the last few rounds here that I've participated in (got quite a bit of writing done)

Well, since I'm usually the only one posting in my day time-your night time hours, I suppose I could mod myself :D Jokes would be bad, but there's an old Finnish saying that goes something like 'your own joke, the best joke', so...

Confession here: "Be scintillating and witty, or cracky and clever, or anything of the sort" is part of the reason why I don't participate at all!! Well, that and the fact that I haven't written anything in AGES! :) But still, stuff like that is too hard for me and I feel like I'm out of place because everyone else is great at it. I wish I could be all that, but in all reality, it's just not gonna happen soon.

But hey... On the bright side, I just may bring my boring self to the comm one of these days and surprise everyone, including me!

This is exactly why I made such a point of it. The cracky silly stuff is a nice addition -- but it's NOT a requirement, and I'd hate for anyone to be put off by feeling that they somehow don't have just as much of a place here, even if they aren't the class clown.

I do miss seeing you around, and I do hope you drop in soon! Who knows, you might find the writing sneaking back up on you!
