Round 18 is over!

Another great round!  New faces and familiar ones, and lots of activity, especially in the first 24 hours.  So, post here and brag about what you accomplished!

The poll for Round 19 will go up soon.  Watch this space!  Closely!  It might do tricks!

Thanks again, and again, and again, to the Mod Squad, because there's no way I could do this alone:

[livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, [livejournal.com profile] pitry, [livejournal.com profile] chibifukurou, and [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_, and a special welcome to our newest recruit, [livejournal.com profile] lothithil!

And three cheers for [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning, who founded this comm and made it happen.

And if anyone feels like continuing to write for a while, feel free to join us here.

[personal profile] lolmac
Round 18 will be on June 18th and 19th.

Here's the (tentative) Mod Squad schedule.  Please review carefully; we have some people gone and some on different shifts, and if I've scheduled you for a time when you can't make it, that's okay:  just tell me so I can revise.  [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, as usual, your shifts are taking the brunt of the adjustments, so I hope it'll work!

I'm delighted to welcome [livejournal.com profile] lothithil to the Mod Squad!  Assuming her computer behaves that weekend, of course.

And need I say again that you people are all WONDERFUL for doing this!

Round 18 modding

Sat, May. 21st, 2011 12:00 pm

[personal profile] lolmac
Round 18 will probably be the 18th and 19th of June.  However:

One of our regular Mod Squad members, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, is not available in June at all.  She regularly takes the shift from Sunday 9 am GMT to 1 pm GMT.  Is there anyone who would like to pinch-hit?

I would especially welcome new mods -- if we have more people in the pool, the existing mods are less likely to get burned out, yaknowwhatImean?

Although the mod is often the Chief Crackmeister of the Hour, this is not actually a requirement of the position.  If you're a writer not a stand-up comedian (Damn it Jim!) and you've been hesitating to offer on this account, please, hesitate no longer!

ETA:  If you're interested in modding, I will ask for the following information:

- your time zone (That's a big part of how I manage the calendar)
- your general preferences and limitations (Do you work till 5 on Friday?  Go to church on Sunday?  On Saturday?  Sleep in till noon?  Get to bed by midnight?  Stay up till 2 am on weekends?)
- your specific preferences (Are you always online on Sunday afternoon?  Usually bored on Saturday morning?)

Unless otherwise specified, I will begin by assuming that you are not available between 1 am and 9 am in your own timezone, that you work till 5 pm on Friday, and that you do not work on Saturday or Sunday; so I really want to know if those assumptions don't hold.

Also, none of this is ever set in stone; you will never get flack from me when your availibility changes.
lolmac: (Platter)
[personal profile] lolmac
It's that time again!  Please check all the weekends that might work for you.  If you're interested in modding and don't currently have a shift, leave me details in the comments, telling me your time zone and when during the weekend you'd be available.[Poll #1742720]

If you weren't there, you missed the Best Fun of The Entire Month, Folks!

Especially when the Time Chicken kidnapped the moderator.  And when the ninja penguins got drunk and started skateboarding.  And when the drunken ninja penguin took over from [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler and demanded herring!

So tell the world about your triumphs!  And take a moment to thank your mod squad:  [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] pitry, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9 and [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_.  And me.

Round 17 dates!

lolmac: (better with penguins)
[personal profile] lolmac
Round 17 will be the first full weekend in May:  May 7th and 8th.

Yes, this may seem odd:  the following weekend had more votes.  But that's only one of the factors that goes into the decision.  I always have to look to see which weekend is the best for the largest number of people, and which weekend is the best for the moderators.  Without the Mod Squad, this wouldn't happen at all; and it's very important to me that they also have the opportunity to hang out for the weekend and write, not just work their shifts.

So we'll gather round the Maypole starting at midnight GMT on Saturday the 7th and frolic merrily for 48 hours.  See you then!

Please feel free to pimp the comm wherever you can!  When you do, can you let me know, maybe in a comment to this post?  Thanks!

Since we've had some changes in the Mod Squad line-up, I've tentatively put together a new master schedule.  On any given round, there will almost certainly be adjustments, but please review this and confirm that it will work for you (or not) in general:

Jenni ([livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon)

first post 2 pm GMT (10 am EDT Sun)
last post 7 pm GMT (3 pm EDT Sun)

Beth
first post 8 pm GMT (4 pm Sun EDT)
last post midnight GMT (8 pm Sun EDT)

If you're not a moderator and you're interested in helping, please ping me; I'm always interested in you.  Be sure to tell me what time zone you're in, and when you're likely to be available.  With summer approaching (in the Northern hemisphere, that is), we'll need Emergency Back-up Stunt Mods; and we could still use a second mod in Australia (or Japan or China or Malaysia . . . ) (or one with really bad insomnia).

And if you haven't yet voted on the dates for the May round, why the heck not?

ETA:  I think I have all the glitches fixed now, but please flag me if I missed any.

Round 16 is over!

[personal profile] lolmac
And what a round we had!

Only one item of crackfic was added to our badly warped collection, but it was a doozy:  [livejournal.com profile] curuchamion's first contribution to the crack.

The Russian Cheese Mafia attempted to move our cheese off the internet; the brutes kidnapped [livejournal.com profile] jjpor and ate the Time Chicken, and we had to mount a Daring Rescue Mission to save him!  We acquired Engine-X, and don't ask where it is now.  We added flamingos to our menagerie (was that your doing, [livejournal.com profile] floren8?), enjoyed the antics of the motorcycle-riding space pirates, and manged to keep most of the penguins from getting drunk this time.

Seriously:  in spite of the DDoS attacks and the frustration with outages, we kicked ass.

We had new folks and regulars, and new regulars.  We had writing!  Lots and lots of writing!  So comment to this post and brag about it!  (Gentle reminder:  do not post excerpts here; do link to posted fic when available.)

As always, my deepest gratitude goes out to the Mod Squad; even more than usual on this weekend.  You folks absolutely rock:
[livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] pitry, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, and the newest recruit, [livejournal.com profile] chibifukurou!

Keep an eye on the comm!  I'll post the poll to choose dates for the May round in a few days.

The poll was close again, but the relative nuisance level of the possible weekends (and the number of relatives making nuisances of themselves) was a great deal higher on the later weekend.  So guess what?

Round 16 starts in 26.5 hours!

We may need some Emergency Backup Coverage amongst the mods.  Idlewild is unavailable (unless you think you might be able to put in time later on Sunday?), and I haven't yet heard from Glinda.

Skyler, if you think you might be able to do some coverage during the day on Sunday, as well as your usual Saturday evening, please let me know.

Pitry, any chance you can do a second shift again, Sunday evening your time, as well as your Saturday shift?

Round 15 is over!

And it was a splendid round!  We had some terrific writing progress made by most of the attending folks, including a new victim visitor.  The Time Chicken made off with an entire hour from the UK, but the rest of us had already succumbed to that evil.  The automatic shipfic generator stole even more time.  Rush Penguin and the Time Chicken failed to find true love, but that would be a great name for a band.

Meanwhile, the penguins inspired, danced, waved glowsticks, kept muses from decamping, and played drinking games.

Not much crackfic this round; I did produce this timeless offering here.  And [livejournal.com profile] jjpor gave us this magnificent tale!

Fervent thanks to the Mod Squad, as always, mostly especially [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, who stepped into the breach and did three shifts, and [livejournal.com profile] pitry, who did two shifts in spite of having a rotten weekend.  [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, and [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_ all dealt with changed schedules as well as the Time Chicken, and [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9 carried her modding baton whilst in the throes of serious writing!  Go you!  Thank you!

A special salute as always to [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning , who made this comm happen!  PM her with details on what you've written here.  I think the fic gallery is a little out of date.

Be sure to watch for the poll to choose Round 16 dates.
