Date: 2010-10-03 06:37 am (UTC)I have two ideas:
-A novelization of an old videogame. It doesn't have a fandom. There are literally two fics for it, both in the misc gaming section of the pit. The reason for doing this is that it would skip the planning stage I always waste so much time on, and let me get in all that prose-writing practice I so desperately need. Also some more people might buy the game. (Septerra Core, now available for only $10 at gog.com!)
-Multi-Doctor time travel horror fic about freaky repercussions of the Time War unwriting/rewriting bits of the Doctor's past...such as Romana. It's spooky, it's awesome, it has a sad ending, and it completely ignores Time War canon from S4 on because that's how long ago my concept for this got Jossed. The advantage of this option is that someone might read it.
Do my difficult decision-making for me!

Date: 2010-10-03 06:57 am (UTC)And welcome back. Glad to know you're okay (so far as I can tell!)

Date: 2010-10-03 06:59 am (UTC)I probably could have shortened that whole post down to "Doctor Who or stuff you've never heard of: which is better?"

Date: 2010-10-03 07:01 am (UTC)You could've - but then I'd have asked you tedious questions about what the DW fic was about, before answering.

Date: 2010-10-03 07:11 am (UTC)Or Ten/Rose (Handy/Rose) babyfic.
Either one would make me run screaming into the hills (to fetch my shotgun)...

Date: 2010-10-03 07:18 am (UTC)Okay, now where's a funny obscure place for Ten to be? I mean, hypothetically.

Wichita.
Basingstoke.

Date: 2010-10-03 08:10 am (UTC)In fact, they're in different time zones. And since I know which time zone you're in, I know which one it is. I was born very near to that one.
Unless you've moved . . . which might account for part of the four months' absence. o_O

Date: 2010-10-03 01:00 pm (UTC)Really. I am much in favor of novelizing obscure fandoms (and not-so-obscure ones, even.) I'm working very slowly on novzats (that's novelizations) for a '90s TV show called Legend which has about five fans and 2.5 published fics. (Which is ridiculous, because it is basically MACGYVER AND Q TEAM UP TO FIGHT CRIME, people! Sorry, got a bit excited there.)
Um, welcome back? We were worried about you! (Did you run away with the Doctor? *g*)
...I need to stop with the parentheses. ;-)

Date: 2010-10-03 06:57 pm (UTC)Of course, my Google-fu is pretty much nonexistent when it comes to fannish things...
no subject
Date: 2010-10-03 07:14 pm (UTC)Moreover, the series gets occasional mentions and high marks from people who are outside the usual fannish world: it was reviewed (enthusiastically) on a site that covers old TV shows, and touted as One of the Great Shows That Should Not Have Been Cancelled and Should Be Released on DVD NOAW PLS.
The rise to prominence of steampunk is also a factor. Seriously, if Paramount would release the damned thing to DVD, they'd find a decent market.

Date: 2010-10-03 08:12 pm (UTC)Oh, and did I mention it's vaguely steampunk? Yeah. But made before steampunk was cool, as all good steampunk things were.
*ahem*
So anyway, clearly I need a third voter because I can't make decision when you guys are tied.

Date: 2010-10-03 08:22 pm (UTC)I can't really help, because my answer is: "Which do you want more, happy readers or writing practice?" Or that's what my answer should be. My actual opinion is that Nano is likely to go better if you're excited by your idea, and it sounds as if you're more excited by the Who fic. (And pffft to later series canon.)
