Round 22 is Over!

Another fine round!

In between the hypnotic giraffes bent on global domination through brainwashing, the purple zombie werewolves, and the glowing, freshly laundered penguins, we had plot handwavium, tea, sugar, gifs, glowsticks, glow that stuck, incoherent blood on the walls, bacon, and cheese.  We had some new faces turn up, discussions of grammar that did not end in bloodshed, and lots of writing and editing and writing and outlining and writing and beta reading and writing and revising and writing and researching and writing!

So post here and brag about your accomplishments!  The writing-related ones, that is.  If you're an accomplished knitter or postcard artist, there are other forums to post about that.

Please take a moment also to thank the Mod Squad: [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, [livejournal.com profile] pitry, the indomitable [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler (who triumphed over an LJ glitch in mid-mod), [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_, and [livejournal.com profile] lothithil!

Keep an eye on the comm for the November poll!  We'll be here to support the NaNoWriMo lunatics participants, as well as the [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo and [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo and NoWayInHellWriMo people, and anybody else.

Also, it's my birthday tomorrow.  In case anyone wondered.  ;-)

Thank you so much mods!!! This is such an awesome way to sit down and get stuff done. And thanks for not unleashing the zombie werewolves on me!!!

I wrote: 4,000 words in the past 48 hours, pretty much exactly. All on my CM fic, that is still in it's infancy, but I feel like I have a good start now.

Happy Birthday lol_mac!!!

Well, Happy Birthday!

I did some actual writing for a Big Bang Post, but mostly I did editing and revising. Still got a bit to go and then I can put this puppy to bed.

What's NoWayInHellWriMo? I've always avoided NaoWriMo because November is crazy enough with it being a short month at work and Christmas coming up and having Thanksgiving.

Thanks go to the Mods, you guys rock!

See you around next time.

That one does sound more laid back. Maybe I'll do it another year. We have relatives coming after Christmas and I'm going to be trying to do some house projects till then, as soon as I get my big bangs out of my hair. I'm still working on a podfic project, too, so I think that be it till next year.

I need a chore_rush community

I wrote 11,322 words! In base 4. Base 4 is an awesome base for word counts.

But yay for fic_rush, because it got me started on a new fic, which is just what I was hoping would happen! Thanks everyone!

Hope you all enjoy your freshly washed penguins -- mine smell lemony -- and see you next round!

And happy early birthday, [personal profile] lolmac!

Hurrah! *throws stuff*#

(What are these bases of which you speak? I just, you know, click my word count button...)

#nice shiny stuff

Base 4 is writing numbers using only the digits 0, 1, 2, and 3. The number "4" in normal numbers is written as "10" in base 4.

In the Hour 48 post, Beth had suggested counting in base 8, so I found a base 10 (normal numbers) to base 8 online converter and posted my word count in base 8. Then for this wrap-up post, I realized that posting my word count in base 4 made it appear much larger. So, I did a normal word count, and then converted that number to base 4. (Online converters are awesome.)

Thanks. It sounded as if it was something along those lines, but my brain is just skidding over all the bits I don't understand. Which is most of that. *blushes*

I have a lot of trouble understanding number bases too. I get the concept, but whenever it comes to details, I get confused. Which is why online converters (http://www.convertit.com/Go/ConvertIt/Calculators/Math/Base_Converter.ASP) are so handy.

I was at least exposed to the concept of different bases when I was a kid, in the Tom Lehrer comedy song "New Math." In it, he "explains" the math problem 342-173 = ? He first does the problem in normal numbers (base 10), and then does it in base 8. You can listen to the song here on youtube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wHDn8LDks8) (Don't try to actually make sense of it, though. Well, it does make sense if you slow it down, but it's supposed to be fast and funny.)

Oh, thanks. Silly me, I never even noticed that it got screened.

And no, I'd never seen that animation to "The Elements" before! Thanks for the link. :D

I wrote and posted 2 Five Things due on Monday, and my [livejournal.com profile] spook_me fic due Wednesday turned into two fics! How did that happen? Well, I said "What a great story; too bad I can't use this fantastic pun," and Beth said, "Revise the story, you have to use the pun!" and I said, "But I don't wanna revise the story; I like the story! But it's such a goooood pun. Wait! TWO STORIES!"

I also got started on a kinkmeme prompt fill, which I need to get back to, because everyone else filled prompts like LAST MONTH, but I had other alien fish to fry at the time....

Thank you Mods! Thanks to all participants for encouragement and laughs! Thank you, Beth, for herding all us cats (and werewolves), and I hope your birthday will be sparkly and fantastical! And purple, even. :-)

Thank you, Mods!!! You did a great job. I got so much out of this round. I'd like to do it again.

I got a ton of research done which opened up a ton of ideas and scenes. I also wrote on both [livejournal.com profile] witchesbigbang and a few paragraphs on a kink story. The most important part is I got motivated again when I'd been blah for such a long time. I'm ready for November!

Thank you again!

I missed the discussion of grammar! Hook a sister up?

Oh, good job!

That was remarkably civil. I have to say, if it's dialogue, I just use my ear and write what sounds natural for the character. Sometimes I have to tweak it back. With the Boy Scouts, one of them needs pulling in one direction, the other gentle correction in the other direction.

I actually can't picture Rushers getting too heated over grammar. It's definitely a safe place to find writing opinions. But oh, boy. I've seen some doozies over language usage. Especially on the internet, especially if not everyone involved discloses his or her location. Because English, she is a wily beast. Half the time I can't even remember if I'm wrong or just Commonwealth.

Boy Scouts are on their way to the Blowed Up portion of affairs. *g*

Happy Birthday, by the way!

Civil discussions are also easier when you have no clue about which option is actually more grammatically correct. I'm always happy to oblige. ; )

Thanks to the mods, yes! :-)

Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETH! (I would wear purple again, but I used my socks that include purple things over the weekend. ;-D)

And, as I said, I did do what I set out to do and wrote probably around 240 words, which is more than I've done during a fic rush since probably last October or November.

HAAAAAAAAAAPPY BIRTHDAY, and thanks for the great [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush, all! I wrote quite a lot of words but the sum total achievement was that this fic is going to be a hell of a lot longer and more difficult than I thought. Realising this is still progress, yes?

I can't recall if I wrote or not - I wound up falling ill around the end of fic_rush and sleeping all today (Monday, my time), so I didn't finish my speech in time (I shall have to make it up later) - but it was fun anyway. :-)

Happy birthday, Beth! ♫happy birthday to you♪♫ etc...
