Round 22 is Over!

Another fine round!

In between the hypnotic giraffes bent on global domination through brainwashing, the purple zombie werewolves, and the glowing, freshly laundered penguins, we had plot handwavium, tea, sugar, gifs, glowsticks, glow that stuck, incoherent blood on the walls, bacon, and cheese.  We had some new faces turn up, discussions of grammar that did not end in bloodshed, and lots of writing and editing and writing and outlining and writing and beta reading and writing and revising and writing and researching and writing!

So post here and brag about your accomplishments!  The writing-related ones, that is.  If you're an accomplished knitter or postcard artist, there are other forums to post about that.

Keep an eye on the comm for the November poll!  We'll be here to support the NaNoWriMo lunatics participants, as well as the picowrimo and mini_nanowrimo and NoWayInHellWriMo people, and anybody else.

Oh, good job!

That was remarkably civil. I have to say, if it's dialogue, I just use my ear and write what sounds natural for the character. Sometimes I have to tweak it back. With the Boy Scouts, one of them needs pulling in one direction, the other gentle correction in the other direction.

And occasionally, you have to smack both Boy Scouts, if only because they whump so pretty.

Civil discussions are probably easier to maintain when there's an atmosphere of genuine mutual respect, which I certainly hope is present. I'm fully prepared to come down hard and fast if anyone starts flaming around here (just as I do on my own turf), but there hasn't yet been any need even to get threatening.

I actually can't picture Rushers getting too heated over grammar. It's definitely a safe place to find writing opinions. But oh, boy. I've seen some doozies over language usage. Especially on the internet, especially if not everyone involved discloses his or her location. Because English, she is a wily beast. Half the time I can't even remember if I'm wrong or just Commonwealth.

Boy Scouts are on their way to the Blowed Up portion of affairs. *g*

Civil discussions are also easier when you have no clue about which option is actually more grammatically correct. I'm always happy to oblige. ; )

I've noticed that in some circles, a total lack of relevant knowledge -- or any knowledge or intelligence at all -- is standard equipment in any really violent, strident discussion. I guess we're just strange that way.

I have been known to get strident on the subject of grammar Nazis being intolerant and biased over questions that are a matter of preference rather than correctness. I suppose that's either ironical or meta, in a way.
