Round 9 Ends

[identity profile] studyofrunning.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] fic_rush
This was a great round. Five new people randomly showed up in the same weekend, which was great, plus lots of you regulars who I've enjoyed hanging out with every month were around again. All the activity made it really easy to be all enthusiastic cheerleader!mod this time. :D

[livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon not only took over the second night for me, but miraculously appeared on the first night just as I decided that no, staying up all night probably wasn't a good plan. Many thanks for that!

The comments of this post are for bragging. Talk about how much awesome fic you wrote this weekend. That's also a good place for any suggestions, feedback, etc. that you might have.

If you've got something finished and posted, there's a fic gallery where I collect links. (The fic gallery is totally optional. It just makes me feel useful as a mod. :) )

And finally, the Round 10 poll. This poll is open to anyone who might participate next month, whether you've ever participated before then or not.

A note about choosing the 3rd & 4th: in the US, where the 4th of July is a holiday, fic_rush will end from 5PM to 8PM on the 4th depending on your timezone. If your celebrations start and end with going to the nearest city to watch the fireworks, that's just barely doable. Unless it wins by a lot of votes, I'm unlikely to choose that weekend.

[Poll #1575154]

Not too terribly much got done sadly. Oh well there's the next go around.

I don't think Round 10 should be held over the 4th of July weekend, given that for us here in the US it IS a holiday weekend and thus many here will be out celebrating it. I picked the second weekend but any other weekend but the July 4th weekend is cool with me.

Well, considering how many interruptions I ended up having I did better than I'd originally thought with about 2100 words patched together. Most of them ended up in a runaway bunny that is turning into its own story, but at least some were in the WIP that I was originally targeting so I don't feel like a complete failure.

Wonderfully motivating just to have other people coming alongside, thank you again for organizing this.

I was picking along through my Onefic when Three abruptly elbowed his way to the front of the line.
("I can't believe I used to be like that. While that old fellow is getting around to filling you in on his story, I've one we might like to give a little spin to. Look, I have here...see?"
"Hey! Get back in line, you whippersnapper!"
"Who are you calling a whippersnapper? I'm older than you are, you know."
"Hmph! And don't try to change the subject either!"
Jo and Barbara together: "Now, boys!"
Ian: "What? What did I do now?")

Bad Three for stealing your One muse! Slap him and tell him that next time you do a Three era fic, it will only have the Master and the Brigadier and they'll both be unflattering about his nose.

Heh, I'm sure whatever you write will be lovely - I look forward to it!

Didn't she just do that one? "Eggs of Destruction" only has the Brig and offscreen!Master, of the recurring cast. (Well, and Benton.)

Not that they were unflattering about his nose. Why his nose, btw? I like his nose.

*has sudden extremely random plot bunny where a certain size/shape of hand is terribly necessary for Plotty Reasons, and neither Three's big square hands nor the Brig's narrow "lady's hands" will do*

*does not go off to check the size of Delgado!Master's hands before finishing essay*

No, that had the Doctor in it - plenty of him! I mean a Three-era fic with NO (Bad) Doctor and the Brigadier and the Master. Sadly, I don't think Prim would do it!

And Mr Pertwee was rather sensitive about his nose - it's a standing joke, to the point where he's described in The Time Warrior as a "long-shanked rascal with a mighty nose!" and one of Four's first comments on his appearance is: "the nose is a definite improvement!" :-)

That sounds... random. Like Cinders, only with gloves/fingerprints or something? Um. Does the Brig have narrow lady's hands? 8-o

Well, not miniscule, but Nick Courtney does have oddly narrow tidy little hands - I tend to notice when he answers the phone. Which he seems to do a lot. They're smaller and smoother than Jamie's, and a LOT smaller than Three's.

(The "lady's hand" thing was an absent-minded reference to James Herriot's veterinarian stories, where he was good at birthing lambs because he had small hands which the farmers would call "lady's hands" for a joke. I guess it does make for a rather startling image with reference to the Brigadier!)

I was just reading that! I'm re-reading those books right now which is probably why that sounded perfectly right. ;-)

Hoom, hum, hrm - something with just the Brig and Master? *ponders*

Oh you should! After a while you find yourself giggling like he does, it's quite catching. I love ol' One, he's got so much mischief going under his 'proper' exterior.

Total word count for the weekend so far is under 1000 words -- but the progress is good and I'm pleased. I got some critical research finished that's cleared away the obstacles to finishing the chapter, and I'm within reach of getting it finished, if not by the end of today, then hopefully by the end of tomorrow. Glee!

I've also noticed that I seem to slow way down when I reach this point in a story . . . as if I'm afraid of finishing it. Huh.

I didn't get much done, but I wasn't really going to write anything before I signed up here so you guys got me to do a ton more than I expected. (Two comment-box sections of a fic I'm working on!)

July 4th weekend isn't the best idea for me as I do like to watch the celebration at the capital and I know Dad'll be cooking something. Also July 31st is not a good time for me, as it's my birthday! And I must party. :3

Other than that - well, nothing's planned out currently, so I should be free. Mostly, anyways.

Total word count for me would have to be up near 5000 words, I can't really be bothered figuring it out properly. I finished two chapters to two seperate WIPS, wrote my fic for [livejournal.com profile] vmfic_gameon and started planning the final chapters for a fic I hope to have done by the end of the month. In all a very productive weekend.

Thanks for this, it helped a lot, especially when it came to having someone cheer me on when I was writing a lot.

Thanks for making this n00b feel welcome!

I got loads written yesterday (in particular), and now have about 2/3 of chapter 3 of my original fic completed.

I don't mind when in July, so long as it's not the last weekend, as that's the deadline for [livejournal.com profile] scifibigbang and I want to get the fic done before then!

Probably about 4000 in total, and it's got me onto the home run for this everlasting UNIT series I've been writing. :-)

It was fun, although Saturday was a bit of a waste, as I was too tired to do much, but things perked up in the evening and yesterday.

Hmm. Which weekend in July? That's going to be tough. Might not be around.

ETA: I've not ticked the last two weekends in July but they are doable if that's when the round is.

So... is there going to be an August round, or has RL eaten your life?

I really hope this will go on; I rather depend on it to get me writing! :-)
