Round 58 is over, and what a splendid round! We saw new faces writing, and old faces returning and writing, and new and old faces modding usurping and sharing the glee. (Well, actually, we didn't see anyone's face at all, but we did see their icons, and that's cool too.) The early start and free-for-all was a fine kick in productivity, and much glee has been had. And our very own

a_q scored her first NaNoWriMo win, even as we watched!

We must now crown a new Champion Usurper for this round:

a_phoenixdragon, aka

a_phoenixdragon, who covered NINE HOURS of emergency stunt modding overall. This includes both free-for-all and Emergency Backup modding. And this is her FIRST TIME as a mod!

So, here we go! Please confirm if your shifts work -- I've tapped a couple of the Irregulars. Also, hunt for errors with your usual ruthless zeal.

I have not actually assigned anyone to the Friday daytime shifts: it's currently open for volunteers, first come first usurped. I've divided it into 3-hour shifts. Claim one, and I'll update the schedule and tailor it to your time zone. Anything still unclaimed when we start is fair game for usurpation.

xandromedovna, I have only scheduled you for one shift at present, on the expectation that you'll cover part of Friday, and hoping not to burn you out completely by the end of the weekend!

There's also a gap on Sunday, open for ~~bitter rivalry and battles to the death~~ our wonderful volunteers.

raktajinos, you have your first assignment! Also, you need to choose a Pretentious Title for yourself, as does a_q.

Well, after fighting LJ half the evening last night, I finally just went to bed. The much-delayed post commenceth:

The poll to break the tie over November weekends . . . ended in a tie. But there's definite interest in an extended round on the final (Thanksgiving) weekend, so I'm going with that. Since the main opportunity is in the US, I'm going to extend it for a half-day, to cover Friday daytime (US) but we won't try to run overnight starting Thursday. Unless there's interest in an earlier start, in which case we can start earlier (or simply usurp in negative time, which is always fun).

Round 58 will run from Friday morning EST, November 28, to midnight GMT Sunday, November 30. The actual start time on Friday will depend on who's interested in modding at what time.

Mods, who is available? (For your regular shifts, as well as volunteers for Friday.)

The November poll was very even for all weekends, with no clear favourite. On top of that, I've been travelling: I'm still on the road, and will be in transit this coming weekend as well. So, we need to make a decision.

Two decisions, in fact: one of the available weekends is Thanksgiving weekend in the US. If we pick that weekend, we have the option of making it a longer round (right at the end of November, which can be a real boon to the NaNo folks).

These polls, alas, have to be radio buttons, but I promise you a fresh set of ticky boxes afterwards.

I'm truly esctatic to announce the results of my ~~headhunt~~ ~~recruitment drive~~ impassioned plea for more modding help! Please give three cheers and a shower of confetti to

a_q, who have expressed their willingness to join the Mod Squad, and

a_phoenixdragon, who's been lured into the Fic Rush Highly Irregulars!

New mods (including Irregulars), and anyone else who might be inclined, please go to this post and answer the questions regarding your hours of likely availability, general preferences, home time zone, and walruses. (The walrus question is optional.)

Actually, we already have a lot of good mods, but we're greedy. We want more!!

Interested in modding? Possibly interested? Vaguely tempted? Open to bribery? We offer pretentious titles, virtual cookies, and a monthly shot at galactic domination.

Several of our regular mods now have other things happening in RL -- school, job changes, outside commitments, expanding social lives, possibly (for all we know) even Secret Missions full of Derring-Do (or Derring-Don't). The more people we have available to mod, the better it is for all of us -- the last thing we want to see is someone burning out on a fun activity because they feel obligated to it.

So, if you've never modded but would like to try, or if you've never thought of modding but are susceptible to flattery, cajolement, and bribes, or are unsure about it but sufficiently intrigued to speak up, now is the time!

On the Round 57 poll, at present, the weekend of October 25th and 26th is showing a healthy lead.

There's a problem with that: I will be out of town that weekend, and I will not be able to organize or participate in a round at that time. (My birthday is on Friday, and we're going to run away from home for a couple of days.)

So, with that in mind: if you really do prefer that weekend, it comes with the added requirement that someone else will have to run it. If, based on this, you want to change your vote, you can do so (and it would actually be a good idea).

This was a very quiet round, although we had at least one fine new face, and some writing and icons and projects accomplished.

The slow pace is mostly due to my own sluggishness: I have not been doing well at getting polls up early, and this month was especially bad. I'm incredibly delighted to announce that we now have a Master Pollmeister,

sara_lakali, who will be posting the polls for the new rounds. I will still be making the final decisions on the weekend and doing the schedules, and with her help I'm looking forward to being less tardy for future rounds! Yay
