Well, the poll for the October round ended up in a near-tie, so I'm going to call upon our Honoured Members to vote in a Death Match Smackdown!  I'll also get the poll for November up right away, so as not to be way late (as I am this month).[Poll #1629033]
lolmac: (Lockpick)
[personal profile] lolmac
Well, there's definitely interest in having Round 11 in October, which means Round 12 will be in November.  So, when shall we all meet again?[Poll #1627160]

Hey, everybody!  She's okay!  She just reappeared on LJ and she's all right!

Um, welcome back, we did another round and it was great and WE'VE MISSED YOU!!

Wow, what an amazing round!  I lost count of how many people we had and just how much everyone did -- not only writing, but editing, posting, and especially tackling those lurking unfinished fic projects that tend to bulk up and get scary when left in the corners.

So remind us.  This is your chance to brag!  What did you accomplish?  Remember, high word count isn't the only joy -- any and all progress is cause for celebration.

This is also your chance to give feedback, and my chance to shower thanks on [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, and [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, who traded off modding with me, and without whom I could not have done this.  And a salute to [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning, the founder of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush .

I'll post a poll to choose dates for Round 11 within the next few days.

I may need to redo the fic gallery, since it's a post under [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning's user ID, and I don't have editing access to the post.  Accordingly, please send me a PM with the following information on fics to add to the gallery, or any changes to make to fic entries already listed there:

-fic title
-link to the fic
-the name or username to credit the fic to, if it's not the one you're posting with
-fandom(s)
-main characters/pairings
-rating/warnings
-spoiler warnings, if applicable
-what round of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush you wrote it for
-word count (if it's a WIP, please give current and expected final word count, if you can)

There's no limit on how many fics you can have listed, nor how long after a round you can have a fic from it listed.  Any fic in any fandom qualifies, as long as you worked on it during a round of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush .

Round 10 is in one week!  Sharpen your thesaurus and clear your schedules!
lolmac: (Shush)
[personal profile] lolmac
The votes are in, and Round 10 will be the weekend of September 25th and 26th, from Friday midnight GMT to Sunday midnight GMT.  This was the weekend on which the fewest people were unavailable.

The following Wonderful and Amazing people have offered to help with hourly posts:  [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, and [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon -- please join me in wild cheers for them, because I would not be able to do this on my own.  Can the three of you let me know when during the weekend you're likely to be available, and we'll parcel out the hours accordingly?  I'm on the Pacific coast of the US, so I'm particularly going to need help during the wee hours (in UK time, that's from 10 am to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday).  I also have a commitment that Saturday evening my time that will take me AFK for a few hours then.

If you think you'll be able to participate, please reply to this post.  In addition to the people who will be writing, there was plenty of interest expressed in dropping in and leaving distracting comments, so I fully expect to see plenty of tomfoolery.  (It is not necessary to sign up in advance for tomfoolery.)

And a final postscript on the TwitterFace topic:  the ticky boxes have been suppressed for this comm, but if you're viewing this page through your Flist, or in your own style, you will still see the things unless you fix it in your own LJ (because the settings in your LJ will override the settings in this comm).  The amazingly easy-to-follow instructions are right here.

Also, I have no plans to emigrate to Dreamwidth myself; I like LJ, and I expect the PTB to respond to the smacking they're currently undergoing.  Especially since the smacking is only going to get harder they longer they wait.  *evil laugh*

Let us all thank the marvelous [livejournal.com profile] kirsty841 , who pointed me towards the code to turn off the damned ticky boxes for cross-posting comments to Twitter and Facebook.

I have used it to turn off the feature in my own journal, and in all the comms I moderate, including this one and the [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48  comm.  Also [livejournal.com profile] rda_daily  and [livejournal.com profile] macgyverdeleted .

If anyone is actually displeased by this -- you wanted to be able to cross-post -- well, PM me and we'll talk.  But with any of the comms, you'll have to talk very convincingly.  Each of us has to make our own decisions about privacy and public exposure, but I don't feel that any of us has the right to make that decision for others.  As far as I'm concerned, if a post in a comm is cross-posted, that exposes everyone in the comm, and the others didn't have a say in the decision of the cross-poster.

Okay, <end> soapbox mode.

I'll post the results of the poll to pick our next 'rush weekend later today.  I will, of course, cross-post it to Facebook, Twitter, National Geographic, and assorted tabloids, as well as chiseling it onto a monolith on the surface of Mars.  But only if everyone who's ever posted to the comm agrees retroactively, after having taken a ride back in time to leave their decision in a time capsule in my bottom desk drawer.

*checks drawer*

Nope, nothing.  Oh, well.

Has ANYONE seen or heard from [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning since early June?

I know that people can and do fall off the intranets for longish periods of time, for various reasons, including Computer Fail.  But there's been nothing on this comm since the June round ended and the July round poll was done -- not even a confirmation of the poll results.  She hasn't responded to PM, and I haven't yet located anyone who's able to get in direct touch with her.

For obvious reasons, I'm very worried.

For the comm here, which I know is very important to us (in addition to studyofrunning herself) -- [livejournal.com profile] dragonessa24 gave me posting access here, and has offered to make me a Maintainer of the comm so as to keep the lights on.  I'm willing to do that, or to step aside for another if someone else is interested and able to put in the time.

Of course, if someone can tell me "Oh, she's fine, she just won the lottery and hitched a lift with a dishy bloke in a police box", then my month will look a great deal shinier.

Round 9 Ends

This was a great round. Five new people randomly showed up in the same weekend, which was great, plus lots of you regulars who I've enjoyed hanging out with every month were around again. All the activity made it really easy to be all enthusiastic cheerleader!mod this time. :D

[livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon not only took over the second night for me, but miraculously appeared on the first night just as I decided that no, staying up all night probably wasn't a good plan. Many thanks for that!

The comments of this post are for bragging. Talk about how much awesome fic you wrote this weekend. That's also a good place for any suggestions, feedback, etc. that you might have.

If you've got something finished and posted, there's a fic gallery where I collect links. (The fic gallery is totally optional. It just makes me feel useful as a mod. :) )

And finally, the Round 10 poll. This poll is open to anyone who might participate next month, whether you've ever participated before then or not.

A note about choosing the 3rd & 4th: in the US, where the 4th of July is a holiday, fic_rush will end from 5PM to 8PM on the 4th depending on your timezone. If your celebrations start and end with going to the nearest city to watch the fireworks, that's just barely doable. Unless it wins by a lot of votes, I'm unlikely to choose that weekend.

You can post here and let me know if you expect to be there.

One-week reminder: Round 8 of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush is next weekend. It starts a couple of hours before when I'm posting this.
[identity profile] studyofrunning.livejournal.com
Round 8 of Fic Rush will be May 15th & 16th, midnight to midnight GMT. Time Zone Converter.

Post here if you're planning to come write. It fills my inbox and makes me feel popular.

I could also use someone to post from 6 AM to 1 PM GMT both nights. If you know you'll be around for part of that time and you don't mind taking over, let me know in the comments.

See you all then.
[identity profile] studyofrunning.livejournal.com
I asked, and almost all of you prefer to keep polling for the best weekend each time.

(Since some people mentioned effort, posting a poll really only takes a few extra minutes on my part. Once a month. So it's really not a problem at all except if I forget to do it on time.)

[Poll #1553191]

And of course you can leave comments if there's something you want to add or ask.
