Yesss, it's time for a poll![Poll #1888766]

Additional note to mods: please let me know in the comments if you have specific January weekends when you are or are not available.  I'll be posting a new Master Schedule soon (which will probably attempt to take over the world, only to be foiled by the Doctor Schedule).

What a great round! We had new people (welcome, and hope to see you again!), and old people (welcome back, and hope to see you again!) We had finished fic, and finished drafts! We had sex scenes, and adverbs aplenty, and tea!

Boast about what you accomplished in the comments below! And don't forget to give thanks to the Mod Squad: [personal profile] lolmac, our Queen Mod, who also filled in when a mod got sick, [profile] sidlj who likewise filled in, [personal profile] agirlnamedtruth, who also filled in, [personal profile] welfycat, [personal profile] pitry, [personal profile] isdon_isgood9, [personal profile] chibifukurou, [personal profile] lullabymoon, and [personal profile] idlewild.

Well done, everyone!

We're getting pings from what I would call 'proto-spammers':  twice this round (so far, that I know of), a mystery poster has commented twice on two consecutive posts *(that is, for example, one comment to Hour 16 and one to Hour 17).  The first poster was named "bulldogc", the second was named "blufella".

The comments have all been the same:  just "Thank you for sharing" with no punctuation.  Because of the anti-spam settings on the comm, each one has gone into the "suspicious comments" mod queue.

In each case, the poster's journal was a typical spambot journal:  recently set up, no posts, no friends, no userpics, no comments received, multiple comments made.

If you get any comments like this during your shift:  pm me and tell me the name of the bot journal so I can report it; and delete the comment ASAP.  Choose the delete option that marks the comment as spam and bans the owner.  Be sure to tell me the journal name before you delete the comment, since you'll be deleting the evidence.

Although these items appear innocuous, the journal owners are probably trying to establish a base to tilt their algorithms before they start pumping out spam comments, so let's make it harder for them.

It's time to play Find the Scheduling Error! GO!

Don, please note:  your first shift is later than usual (although it's the same length).  I hope this will still work for you.

It's time, based on my entirely obscure Gaxian almanac, for me to update the Master Modding Schedule and ask Many Nosy Questions about time zones and availability.

If you are a mod, or have modded, or would like to mod, or believe it's a mod mod mod mod world, please answer the following questions.  You can give answers in your own time zone, or in GMT -- just tell me which you're using.  Please ignore everyone else's schedule at this time:  this is all about YOU.

Also, even if you've told me this information before, please reply.  If I don't hear from you at all, I will probably assume you are no longer interested in modding.

- Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are you NOT EVER available to mod?  (Due to sleeping, regular commitments, etc.)

- Out of our usual 48 hours, what hours are the VERY VERY BEST for you to mod?

- If your schedule is in mad flux, but you're interested anyway, what's your best guess?

- Are you more comfortable with having a set, regular shift that's pretty much the same each weekend, or are you happier with a variable shift, or are you only interested in (or able to commit to) providing occasional emergency coverage?

- Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time that you're comfortable modding?

- Is there anything else I should know about your life that has bearing on this?  (for example:  you're a student and your schedule goes through periodic reshuffling; you're about to move to Australia and start a new job on the night shift; you're an alien with three months left of your holiday here, after which there will be a serious time lag on your internet connection due to relativistic time compression)

- For extra credit, use 'penguin' in a sentence.  Creativity counts.

Round 36 . . .

Round 36 will be this coming weekend, the 15th and 16th, in aid of Yuletide's impending deadlines.

Who is available and willing to mod?

Gah, where has that first chunk of December gone?  No fear, we still have a few options.[Poll #1883548]

[personal profile] lolmac
And it was truly epic!!

With the US having a four-day weekend, we had the longest round we've ever done, beginning on Thursday with Hour -32 -- a staggering total of eighty hours of Rushing.  In all that time, not only did we not lose track of which hour was which (well, maybe a little, but not for long), we only had ONE hour in which no post was made.  (Yes, some were late, but that's normal.)

We had three baby mods modding for the first time:  Turtle ([livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle), Sid ([livejournal.com profile] sidlj), and Naomi ([livejournal.com profile] n_e_star).  Special thanks to them:  we could not have done this without the extra help.

Also, extra special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook, who not only did a planned shift but also stepped in whenever the need arose (including when I overslept and missed the start of my own damned shift), and especially to the truly amazing [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, who covered both her usual shifts plus an entire extra one for an AWOL mod.

The Roll of Honour:  [livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle, [livejournal.com profile] sidlj, [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook, [livejournal.com profile] n_e_star, [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedtruth, [livejournal.com profile] welfycat, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, [livejournal.com profile] lothithil, [livejournal.com profile] chibifukurou, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_, and [livejournal.com profile] lolmac.

Now tell us what you achieved during this round!  Share the glee and brag the brag!!

If you're still happily writing away, by all means, don't stop!  When we went from negative time to positive time, [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedtruth kindly kept hold of the unused Hour Zero, which we have attached to the end of this round for you to enjoy.  You'll find it well-stocked with cookies, glowsticks, pasta, penguins, and all the other amenities.  Just be sure not to try to reverse the polarity, please.

See you next round!

The round has started!  Yes, already!  Why are you still here?  Quick, go check it out on the other comm!

This will definitely be an EPIC round.  It will probably be more than a little crazy during the first part, but when has that ever deterred us?

The 'Rush will officially start at 4 pm GMT, which is 11 am Eastern Standard Time, which is Hour -32.  At that time, I'll make a starter post and officially open the room, as it were.

[livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle and [livejournal.com profile] sidlj have volunteered to make check-in posts on Thursday, but there's a lot of timey-wimeyness available, so I'm not assigning shifts.  Once the round is open, it's a free-for-all!  Anyone with posting access can post.  Work it out any way you like, just don't break anything that doesn't need to be broken.  If you want to post and don't have access, try pinging me.  I'll grant it if I get your message!

These are the posting guidelines:
Guidelines for the Free-For-All! )

The Free-For-All will end at 1 pm GMT Friday, which is 8 am Eastern Standard Time, or Hour -11.  [livejournal.com profile] n_e_star has offered to start a regular shift at that time, for which we salute you!  (I personally expect to be asleep then.)  However, you need to join the [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48 comm so I can grant you posting access.

The Formal Schedule:

Whew.

Okay, check your part of the schedule and let's play Spot Beth's Timing Error!  Whee!

[personal profile] lolmac
I'm putting together the schedule for this weekend, and working out how much coverage we have for extended hours.  There's been definite interest in starting earlier on Friday, and even some interest (possibly even serious) in starting on Thursday.  We can definitely start as early as 2 pm GMT on Friday -- 9 am EST in the States.  And before that -- well, it's not as if we have to rent the internet by the hour, is it?

Moreover, we don't actually have to go the whole time without a break:  we can, effectively, turn on the lights as early in the weekend as anyone will actually want, and post as and when we can until we start to turn out in enough force to do hourly check-ins.

Kind of an Expansion Pack Rush.  Or an accordion.

So:  if you're interested in starting any earlier than 2 pm GMT on Friday, PM me!  Let me know when you think you might want to be around.  I will start the round pretty much whenever the first person wants to start, and I will extend posting privileges to anyone who's willing to make check-in posts starting Thursday.  However, you need to contact me ahead of time, so I can make the necessary changes in access.

How's that sound?

I han't made it clear in yesterday's post: this question is for everyone, not just the mods.[Poll #1879393]

Round 35

Fri, Nov. 16th, 2012 06:05 pm
lolmac: (grave danger)
[personal profile] lolmac
As you may have guessed from my failure to announce it any earlier (also, from the poll), Round 35 will be next weekend -- Thanksgiving weekend in the US.  As usual, it's a great weekend for some and a terrible one for others.

At present, the following mods have indicated that they can be there: [livejournal.com profile] welfycat, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedtruth, and [livejournal.com profile] lothithil[livejournal.com profile] pitry and [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler have indicated that they can't mod, and we will miss them!  [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_ and [livejournal.com profile] chibifukurou, I don't have a clear indication from either of you.  Can you let me know?

In addition:  it's a long holiday weekend for most of us in the US.  Also, it's NaNoWhatever month, and quite late in the month.  Is there any interest in starting the round earlier in the weekend?  If so, weigh in in the commetns!  When would you like to start if you were Queen Mod of Mods, and are you able to mod during any part of that extra time?
lolmac: (Shush)

Time (and past time) to poll for the next round!  I have been sadly distracted.[Poll #1877893][Poll #1877894]

[personal profile] lolmac
How did you do?  Tell us about the work you did so we can all celebrate!  Also, have a cookie.  If you like, you can also have an extra hour and keep on writing.  Given how this round went, I'm pretty sure there are bits of at least 3 or 4 hours that didn't quite get settled into their slots, so the extended hour is likely to be very long.  It's as long as you need it to be!

Be sure to thank the Mod Squad:  [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler, [livejournal.com profile] welfycat, [livejournal.com profile] isdon_isgood9, [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook, [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedtruth, [livejournal.com profile] lothithil, [livejournal.com profile] pitry, [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon, [livejournal.com profile] idlewild_, and yours truly.

See you next month for Round 35!

And now, the monthly contest:  Find the Error That Beth Always Manages to Make in the Schedule!

Let me know if I've scheduled anyone for a time when they can't make it.  Especially if you told me you couldn't and I got it wrong anyway.
Don, please note that your second shift is an hour shorter than usual.

ETA:  Don wins!  Being in Australia really gives her an edge.

Round 34 . . .

[personal profile] lolmac
Round 34 will be this coming weekend, the 13th and 14th of October.

I've heard from some of the Mod Squad, but not all.  Could the following people please let me know if you'll be available?

[livejournal.com profile] welfycat (specifically, whether you can do this coming weekend), [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedtruth, [livejournal.com profile] lothithil, [livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin, and [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning.  If I don't hear back at all, I'll assume non-availabilty, and we'll plan to make up crazy stories all weekend about how you've run away from home to become ninja pirates.

Thank you!
lolmac: (Mice)
[personal profile] lolmac
Time to vote on Round 34!  I will be traveling the last full weekend in October, and I've been lallygagging instead of posting polls, so we can't have it the weekend of the 6th and 7th unless that fellow with the police box turns up.[Poll #1871190]
